For detailed, current and complete information

regarding passports, Govt of India has opened a very informative site at 

http://passport.nic.in/ 

It gives almost all the information required by the individual, except the following, including status enquiry to know the current status of your application.

Authority letter for submitting the application is not accepted in the following cases:

1. If application is under TATKAL.
2. If application is for minor children, only parents are allowed to submit the application.
3. Even othervise, authority letter has to be in favour of a relative of the applicant only.
4. Apart from the application form duly filled along with the documents required, a covering letter addressed to the passport Officer for the service required is also insisted upon.

For getting your first passport

or reissue of pass port against expired passport, if you are a resident of Gurgaon,you can apply for the same at mini secretariate, near Rajiv Chowk, Gurgaon.

Similarly you can apply to the respective city magistrate of other districts also.

For any changes in your passport

you have to go the Passport Officer of your area. For Gurgaon it is, Pass Port Officer, near Hotel Hyat Agency near Bhikaji Gama Place New Delhi. You can even apply for new passport there. You may go there early in the morning say 8.00 a.m. as queue starts to build up quite early.You have to go to the back of the office to get a token number. Presently there are two seperate queues for getting the token number under Tatkal an General.No seperate queue for the ladies. senior citizens and govt. employees do not need the token. Tokens are issued upto 9.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.Then you can go to the main office from front gate. General cases are dealt in Hall 1 while tatkal cases as well as sr citizens and govt emloyee cases are dealt in hall 2. A display board displays the counter number and the token number they are attending to. On your turn you can go to the counter against which your token number is blinking and submit your application. Fee for the service will be charged there itself. You will be given an acknowledement with the reference number etc. If you keep patience, the whole work does not take too much time. If you have forgotten to carry photographs, private photographers are available there. Even photocopying person is available there.For miscellaneous services like ecnr, address change etc. you donot have to get the token number. You can go to the counter number 12 there itself straight. Counter number 12 remains open upto 2.00 pm. You can submit your application through a representative also preferably a relative. For that you have to give him an authority letter

and he or she has to carry some photo identity card and a photo copy of the same.

Types of Application forms......

Form No. 1
It is used for the following services.

• Fresh Passport or Reissue of Passport on expiry of previous passort or Minor's Passport 
• New Passport in lieu of Lost / Damaged Passport
• New Passport Booklet due to Exhaustion of Pages in Passport
• New Booklet due to change of appearance or change in maiden to married name

In all these cases a new passport booklet is issued. Old passport is cancelled.

Form No.2
It is used for the following services called Miscellaneous Services

• Police Clearance Certificate
• Emigration Check Not Required (ECNR) stamp
• Extension of validity of passport initially issued with short term validity
• Addition of Spouse Name
• Change of Address

For all these services endorsement is made on your existing passport only.
