Delhi Metro News:

03/09/2010

Central Secretariat to Qutub Minar metro service starts on 03/09/2010 4.00 PM. Qutub to Gurgaon metro is already operational. Chattarpur station has already been inaugurated. Thus now the line from Gurgaon to Jahangirpuri shall be completely operational. It covers Central Secratariat, Udyog Bhawan, Race Course, Jor Bagh, INA, AIIMS, Green Park, Haus Khas, Malviya Nagar, Saket, Qutub Minar, Chhatarpur, Sultanpur, Ghitorni, Arjan Garh, Guru Daronacharya, Sikanderpur, MG Road, IFFCO Chowk, Huda City Centre in Gurgaon. It will greatly benefit the commuters traveling to and from Gurgaon.

Parking is available at various stations in Gurgaon. Parking charges are Rs. 20 for cars and Rs. 10 for scooters up to 10 hrs. Beyond 10 hrs. charges are doubled. Charges need to be revised. Slabs should be upto 12 hrs. and more than 12 hrs. These are necessary as here will be a lot many people who will be travelling more than 1 hr. on either side and also work for more than 8 hrs. in office.

Roadways should make sure that public transport i. e. buses are available every 5 mts. from each place to the nearest metro station say Huda City Center. Frequency of 25 mts. as reported to be planned is ridiculous. For maximum benefit, firstly they may introduce a round service from Rajiv chowk gurgaon to Shankar chowk gurgaon via huda city centre. Then they should cover all the major colonoies. High frequency is important othervise people will still be tempted to use their cars only.

Frequency of buses to dwarka sector 9 also needs to be increased. AC bus fare need to be rationolised. I found that the Non-AC bus fare from IFFCO Chowk Gurgaon to Dwarka sector 9 metro station is Rs. 14 while that of AC bus is Rs. 36. Only two passengers used it from Dwarka Sec 9. AC bus fare should not be more than 1.5 times the Non-AC bus fare.
