CNG KIT FITMENT

These days fuel prices are touching the sky. High fuel prices are driving the vehicle owners mad.To overcome the problem, it is advisable either to swich over to the public transport or to get the vehicles retrofitted with CNG Kits. Petrol vehicles can be retrofitted with CNG Kit. Any Petrol vehicle can be converted to run on CNG. A vehicle fitted with CNG Kit can run on CNG or Petrol. Changeover takes place just by the flick of a switch fitted on the dash board without any noticeable delay. At present CNG is available only in Delhi region, but will soon be available in whole of NCR. CNG fitted Vehicle can be used anywhere.In case cng is not available at a place, it can run on petrol. One charge of CNG may be enough for about 200 km run.

Advantages of CNG Kit fitment

 1. Running cost of vehicle with CNG is only about Rs.1/km against Rs.4/km in case of petrol.I kg of CNG costs around Rs.19.00 and gives about 20 Km on Wagon-R/ Santro.
 2. Quality of exhaust emissions from CNG is far far cleaner than in case of petrol.

Disadvantages of CNG Kit fitment

There are some minor disadvantages also.
 1. Pick up of the vehicle while running on CNG is slightly low.
 2. Some minor increase in wear and tear of the vehicle engine is expected.
 3. Presently there are some delays during refilling of CNG as number of CNG filling stations is few. Many a times the gas pressure at the filling station is lower than the desired 220 psi.This results in delay in filling and also only about 10 kg gas gets filled in a gas cylinder of 12 kg. Charges however are as per quantity of gas actually filled in kgs. Hopefully these problems will disappear soon.

Cost of fitment of CNG KIT

Initial cost of fitment of CNG Kit is about Rs. 32,000/-. Same is likely to be recovered in about a year through savings in fuel cost if the vehicle runs about 10,000 km in a year.

CNG KIT has to be got fitted from an agency authorised by Transport Deppt of the Govt. of Delhi. List of all the 102 authorised centers as on 21/08/2008 for fitment of CNG/LPG  is at.

Endorsing of CNG Kit on Vehicle Registration Slip

Immediately after fitment of CNG Kit, it should be got endorsed in the Vehicle Registration Slip. For that vehicle along with the registration slip and papers issued by the CNG KIT fitting agency has to be taken to the motor vehicle Office. Vehicle registration form has to be filled for endorsement. Nominal fee has to be paid. MVI examines the vehicle for CNG Kit number etc. and a new registration slip duly endorsed for CNG is issued.In Gurgaon, no problems are faced for any of these formalities. Only thing to ensure is that CNG fitting agency must endorse the vehicle number in the papers i.e. bill etc. issued by them.Hopefully same must be true for whole of NCR.

Endorsing of CNG Kit for Insurance

In case of any claim, Insurance company may raise objections if the vehicle is fitted with CNG Kit unless it is got endorsed in the insurance policy. For insurance of CNG fitted vehicles, minor extra insurance  premium has to be paid.Thus immediately after endorsement of CNG in the Vehicle registration slip, Insurance company should be contacted for getting it endorsed in the insurance papers.This also is hassles free.
